Inside Scoop: HGTC Nursing Program thanks Mercy Hospice
May 16, 2006For the past two years, Mercy Hospice and Palliative Care has worked closely with the Nursing Program at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, S.C. Each semester, one of our experienced nurses gives a two-hour presentation to the students about hospice and palliative care and the many benefits of our program. Every semester, 30 to 40 second-year nursing students are paired with one of our nurses in one-week intervals so that the students can experience what hospice care is all about.
Students take part in every activity that the nurse in which they are assigned to performs, such as: attending clinical staff meetings, participating in educational programs that are frequently conducted to keep staff abreast of the latest developments in hospice care, to visiting with our patients—whether they reside in their home, nursing facility, assisted living facility, or in the hospital. Students frequently comment how beneficial and inspiring their experiences have been during their time with our nursing staff.
Mercy Hospice and Palliative Care consider it a honor to mentor to HGTC nursing students and take part in their education!
