Press Release: Mercy Announces New Veterans Program

May 28, 2009

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – In conjunction with Military Appreciation Days at Valor Park in Market Commons on Saturday, May 30, 2009, Mercy Hospice and Palliative Care, the area’s oldest, non-profit hospice, announced today the unveiling of a new program for United States Veterans. This program will ensure our veterans are given the honor and dignity they so richly deserve in the last chapter of their lives.

“Veterans are our American heroes,” states Deborah Harley, director of counseling and volunteer services. “When Mercy Hospice cares for a veteran patient at the end of life, we realize that this time may be the last time to say ‘thank you’ for their service to America. In their honor, we have created a special training program for our staff and volunteers, which will help them understand the unique issues that veterans, especially combat veterans, may experience at the end of life.”
