2nd Annual Thrivent Golf Tournament

Oct 24, 2007

Proving that generosity is always par for the course, Christ the Servant Lutheran Church has donated half the proceeds from its 2nd Annual Thrivent Lutheran Financial Services Golf Tournament, held on September 29, 2007, to Mercy Hospice & Palliative Care.

Peter Shaffer, Chairman of the Tournament, presented a check for $5164.00 to Executive Director, Steve Scoma and Carole Bowdre, Director of Development, at Mercy’s offices on October 24th.

Over a 130 golfers participated in the 2nd Annual Thrivent Golf Tournament, which was held under azure skies at the Quail Creek Golf Course in Conway, South Carolina. Although Mercy’s teams did not distinguish themselves on the green (one came in last), the Lutheran’s largesse has fairly guaranteed that, in this case at least, “the last shall be first.”

As Executive Director Scoma put it: “We deeply appreciate this handsome donation by Thrivent Financial Services and Christ the Servant Lutheran Church. It enables Mercy Hospice to continue our vital and free bereavement support services to children and adolescents in the community who have lost a loved one.”

Left to right: Carole Bowdre, Director of Development for Mercy Hospice, looks on approvingly as Peter Shaffer, Chairman of the 2nd Annual Thrivent Gold Tournament, presents a check to Executive Director, Steve Scoma, for the Children’s programs.
