Candlelight Memorial Service
Dec 02, 2007Loss to remembrance; remembrance to tears; tears to prayers; and prayers to light resplendent. That is how it was at the Candlelight Memorial Service to honor the over 600 patients, now gone, whom Mercy Hospice & Palliative Care had been privileged to know and care for.
The Service, celebrated at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church on the evening of December 2nd , drew friends and family members who heard Mercy chaplains Johanna Adams and Loran Bulla speak of life rather than death.
Or in the words of one of the poems read:
“Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away into the next room…
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are….
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort, without a trace of shadow on it.”
And so, amid the tears of loss and longing and the recital of the names of their loved ones, the assembled sang and prayed and lit candles for those who had meant so very much to them in life and who will ever live with them in memory.
